Personal Philosophy Statement
I believe that the first step in becoming a successful educator is to understand that children always come first. Having this image of children sets the tone for how learning will take place. By placing children as your top priority you can create a wonderful and positive learning atmosphere. When putting children first, an educator cares for the children and observes each and every one of their needs, which allows for the educators to meet the needs of the children and know how to provide the best and most beneficial learning experience.
I believe that children are the main focus in a childcare setting and it is our job as educators to provide them with the tools and materials so that they can explore and expand their curiosity. I believe that play is the most important part of learning for children. Play allows for children to discover and learn things on their own and at their own terms. I believe it is something that is important because children develop in all areas when playing with themselves and others.
I believe that a teacher’s job plays a key role in the way children learn. The way an educator presents and exhibits learning can reflect on the way children want to learn. If a teacher isn’t engaging or welcoming when learning, children won’t have the urge to want to learn - but if a teacher makes it something that is positive, interesting, and engaging, children will be more excited and willing to place their full attention on the educator. As a future educator I believe that it is my job to make learning something that children look forward to, and want to engage in.
I believe that all children should be in a learning environment that is safe. To me a safe learning environment is somewhere where children can feel confident, comfortable and themselves. By creating this environment, children are able to feel like their learning setting is a second home. It allows for them to discover and embrace who they are. It also allows for them to engage in socially and physical play with other children. In a safe environment all children should feel included and involved. I think that a safe learning environment is beneficial because it allows for children to have access at their fingertips to the proper materials and tools that are used to promote development and expand on learning.
Educating children is a huge responsibility because you are acting as a guide towards their development and future. I believe that it is such an important and rewarding job. With my values and beliefs on children, how important play is, the importance of my role, and providing a safe environment, I hope they act as a foundation and guide to allow me to be the best ECE possible.
